KITE VICTERS (Versatile ICT Enabled Resource for Students), India's epoch making first network on EDUSAT for schools has completed over 15 years of operations. The channel which was launched on 3rd August 2006 by Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala Shri. V.S Achuthananthan, is now relied by over 50 lakh students and 2 lakhs teachers through which Digital Classes are provided in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic.

KITE VICTERS is available through all DTH and Cable networks, in addition to web-streaming at www.victers.kite.kerala.gov.in and via Mobile Apps available in PlayStore and Apple Store for free download. The YouTube Channel of KITE VICTERS (www.youtube.com/itsvicters) has now over 33 lakh subscribers while the Mobile App has been downloaded by over 10 lakh users. The Facebook page of KITE VICTERS www.facebook.com/victerseduchannel has over 2 lakh followers. The 2nd channel of KITE VICTERS viz KITE VICTERS Plus is now available through selected cable networks. Amidst the Covid pandemic from 2020 onwards, KITE VICTERS facilitated the First Bell Digital Classes which ensured continuance of education for the students. Over 10,000 Digital Classes were telecast as part of this programme, which is still continuing.

Evolution

The EDUSAT network which paved way for KITE VICTERS, was inaugurated by H.E. A P J Abdul Kalam the President of India on 28th July, 2005 in Thiruvananthapuram. Initially set-up on rental space of CDIT in Gorkhy Bhavan, the own studio and uplinking station of KITE VICTERS at the premises of erstwhile IT@School Project, now KITE was inaugurated on 10th February 2009 by Hon. Chairman of ISRO, Padmasree Dr.Madhavan Nair in a function presided over by the then Hon.Minister for Education, Shri.M.A.Baby.

  
  
  
  

In the initial phase, KITE VICTERS also had an interactive mode which was used for video conferencing and other such educational training purposes, which is facilitated through Satellite Interactive Terminals (SITs). At that time, this facility was used by various departments to conduct virtual review meetings and interactions. The main users of the facility under Thiruvananthapuram Hub were KITE, Directorate of Collegiate Education, Directorate of Technical Education, CDAC, SSA, Directorate of IT Lakshadweep & CIMR. At present, the non-interactive mode of transmission is being used.

Multiple modes of Broadcast

In addition to its presence in all DTH and Cable networks, KITE VICTERS also can be viewed LIVE through web-streaming at www.victers.kite.kerala.gov.in Most of the programmes aired through the channel are uploaded in the YouTube channel of KITE VICTERS viz www.youtube.com/itsvicters , which has over 34 lakh subscribers till now. All the First Bell Digital Classes aired through KITE VICTERS is uploaded in the First Bell portal of KITE viz www.firstbell.kite.kerala.gov.in. Further VICTERS is also available in Mobile platform as an App in Google Play Store and Apple Store. Over 10 lakhs downloads for the Mobile App in Play Store has been reported.

Second Channel- KITE VICTERS PLUS

As part of the First Bell, Digital Classes for Pre-Primary to 12th Standard are being aired through KITE VICTERS channel. Despite being telecast 24/7 even with the repeats, the demand for more air-time for classes was felt significantly. It was in this context, it was decided to explore the possibility of a Second channel of KITE VICTERS using the existing bandwidth. After several trials, the 2nd channel viz KITE VICTERS PLUS was launched on September 2021.

Impact

KITE VICTERS has revolutionized classroom methodology in the State. Kerala has demonstrated on how to use the Satellite mode for imparting virtual and Digital education in addition to using the facility for empowering the student and teaching populace. The programme strongly reflects India's commitment to use space technology for national development, especially for the development of the population in remote and rural locations. It also ensures the dissemination of high quality education to the students and teachers from the original source.
